Once upon a long time ago, I used to design knitting and crochet patterns for the brand Deramores. Who remembers them? They were a really popular brand that made their own yarn kits and they had some GORGEOUS yarn (I still have a few balls of their lovely, smooth Studio DK), but very sadly, they closed their doors in 2022 – a sad time for us crafters and for them as a company.
However, happy face time, because I am so pleased to be bringing back some of my most popular Deramores designs to this blog and sharing them all once again with you. A lot of these patterns were available for free on the Deramores website, and I have hand-picked my absolute favourite ones, starting off with this sea urchin pouffe free knitting pattern.
I still remember how much joy this project brought to so many makers – it was a bestseller – and I really wanted to make sure it remained available for everyone looking to add a touch of handmade, cosy texture to their homes. Whether you are a beginner looking to master a new skill or an experienced knitter in search of a quick and satisfying weekend project, this pattern is designed to be just as enjoyable to create as it is to display. Grab your needles and your favourite chunky yarn, and let us get started on creating something truly special together!

Materials & Substitutions
Original Yarn: Deramores Studio Chunky (12 x 100g). Since this yarn is discontinued, you can substitute it with any high-quality Chunky/Bulky weight acrylic yarn. Look for yarns that are soft but hold their shape well, such as Paintbox Yarns Simply Chunky or Stylecraft Special Chunky.
Tip: Because you are holding the yarn triple, make sure you have enough total yardage. You need roughly 1.2kg of yarn/1,044 yards in total. Check your local yarn shop or use Yarnsub.com to match the feel of your favourite replacements.
Additional Supplies:
- 15mm circular knitting needle (80cm length)
- 750g fibrefill toy filling (3 x 250g bags)
- Stitch marker
- Tapestry needle

Making Up
- Using the tail of yarn, weave in and out of all cast-on stitches. Pull tight to close and weave through the same stitches a couple more times to secure.
- Thread yarn through to the wrong side and knot securely inside.
- Stuff the pouffe firmly with the stuffing.
- Seam the cast-off end the same way as the opposite end. Knot the yarn securely on the outside and push the knot in slightly to conceal. Display and love your finished pouffe!
