Pattern (see below for photo tutorial):
Step 1: Using your 5.0 mm hook, chain 50 stitches (or 60 for a larger scrunchie). Join with a slip stitch to form a loop, being careful to ensure your chain is not twisted. Work one round of single crochet (sc), using the yarn under method.
Step 2: Continue working in single crochet or half double crochet (by working between the posts) using the yarn under method. Continue this until your piece measures 7 cm (or 9 cm for a larger version). Break your yarn and fasten off.
Step 3: Turn your work inside out and place your hair elastic around the center of the fabric loop.
Step 4: Fold the fabric over the elastic so the edges meet. To begin slip stitching the scrunchie together, place a new slip knot on your hook. Insert your hook under both loops of the first stitch on the front edge, then through both loops of the corresponding stitch on the back edge.
Step 5: Pull up a loop, yarn over, and pull through both pieces. You will have two loops on your hook; pull the first loop directly through the second loop on your hook to complete your first slip stitch. Continue inserting your hook through both the front and back pieces, yarning over, and working a slip stitch all the way around the seam to close the scrunchie.
Step 6: Once you have seamed all the way around, knot the two yarn ends together securely. Take care not to pull too tightly, as you do not want to pucker the fabric. Hide the remaining ends inside the scrunchie. You have finished your project!

2. Work one sc or half double crochet (working between the posts) and working yarn under until your piece measures 7 cm (9 cm). Break yarn and fasten off.
3. Turn your work inside out and place your hair elastic around it as shown.
4. Start slip stitching the scrunchie together: Place a slip knot on your hook. Insert your hook under both loops of the first stitch on the front piece, then through both loops of the corresponding stitch on the back piece.
5. Pull up a loop. Yarn over and pull through both pieces. You now have two loops on your hook. Pull the first loop directly through the second loop on your hook. Continue inserting your hook through both the front and back pieces, yarning over, and completing a slip stitch all the way around the seam.
6. When you’ve seamed around the scrunchie, knot the two yarn ends together very tightly (taking care not to pucker your work) and hide the ends inside the scrunchie. You’ve finished your scrunchie!
