Let me tell you something revolutionary… I love yarn! I know, hardly surprising, is it? Really and truly though, there’s something so special about gleefully ripping open a wonderful package of new yarn, playing with it, squishing it and planning your next project! I first started out on my crafting journey by regularly reviewing yarn for brands – including for Hobbii when the company was just a wee baby – so, imagine my joy when my good friends there asked me to review some of my favorites and share them with you?
It is a huge privilege to be a Hobbii Creator, designing patterns and working with them reviewing and testing out yarn, and it’s a lot of fun to collaborate with them regularly! If you haven’t checked out their website and yarns yet, why not? You can also take part in their extremely fun Hobbii Bingo game every Monday, giving you the chance to get hold of some wonderful Hobbii products, from yarn to hooks and accessories, and get involved in their brilliant competitions. Just download their free app and you’re good to go!
Anyway, let’s get back to the yarn… I’m thrilled to talk to you today about two fabulous yarns called Bungee Mini and Friends Cotton 8/8 that are absolute staples of my stash. Let’s go!

DETAILS
- Content: 42% cotton, 58% polyester
- Weight: 200 g (7.1 oz)
- Yarn Length: 60m (66 yds)
- Yarn Weight: Jumbo
- Recommended needles: 12 – 15 mm (US 17 – 19)
- Knitting gauge: 6 stitches, 10 rows to 10 cm/4″
- Recommended crochet hook: 10 – 12 mm (US ~N/P-15)
So, what’s good about this yarn? Pudgy, plump, squidgy and definitely NOT mini, Bungee is a real treat for lovers of super-chunky yarn! It is a wonderfully full-feeling and unique product that will delight. Its composition of a cotton tube stuffed with polyester filling is really tactile and comfy-feeling, and you can really let your creativity take off and come up with plenty of unique takes on various homeware projects.

What can I use it for? Baskets, poufs, rugs and mats, XL mandalas, statement blankets… The sky’s the limit in terms of modern home decor with personality!
Is there anything it’s not so good for? Even though they might look cool, I can’t see this yarn working for garments, unless you’re totally going for a couture look that’s not supposed to be practical.
How could this yarn be improved? This is quite an expensive yarn (14€) that might make larger projects using this yarn difficult to afford. I have found that it runs out rather quickly when using it for crochet projects. Because of its unique ‘stuffed tube’ quality, you will need to knot up the ends of your yarn to avoid the filling from falling out when you’ve finished your project. That’s not a negative per se, just something you have to take into account.

So, what’s the verdict? If you’re looking for an irregular take on super chunky yarns, want to elevate your XL projects and don’t mind the price tag this yarn will make you very happy!

What’s this yarn like? We all need a good bunch of cotton yarn in our stash (I personally have at least 100 balls of this very yarn in mine), and this is my absolute favorite cotton of all time. Its versatile DK weight means that it is perfect for all kinds of projects that call for a high-quality cotton yarn (dishcloths, amigurumi, and decor items) that stand the test of time. You can also use it for baby clothing and newborn blankets, where its softness and hard-wearing qualities will really shine.

So, what’s good about this yarn? The colors! The hallmark of this cotton is its astounding array of shades. The palette available is wonderful, allowing you to find the perfect hue for your next project or design. As it is part of the Hobbii Friends range, you can easily combine it with other yarn qualities and make everything matchy-matchy. As for the price, this is an affordable yarn that won’t break the bank if you’re watching your pennies. The quality is also exceptional alongside its durability, and the ball band is very pretty, featuring one of Hobbii’s unique and recognizable little illustrations that every one of their yarns has.
Is there anything it’s not so good for? As with any cotton or plant-based yarn, this yarn can stretch out quite easily, so it’s not the best idea for items that need to keep their shape. It’s also not ideal for intricate colorwork designs (these types of projects require ‘stickier’ yarns like wool or acrylics to make them work well). Beginner knitters and crocheters might want to avoid cotton yarns initially as they can split quite easily.
Could this yarn be improved? I honestly cannot find fault with this yarn, but if I had to, the only negative would be that it doesn’t come in 100g balls! This could be a great way of expanding the Friends range further.

So, what’s the verdict? The perfect multitasking, do-it-all cotton, Friends 8/8 (also available in thinner weights) is set to become your new go-to cotton. Check out their colour-curated, great-value yarn packs to get inspired!
Hobbii were also kind enough to send me over a beautiful cotton, cord-effect wrist bag which has been so handy for storing my bits and bobs. It features very useful inside pockets that keep hooks and needlesstored away nicely.
